Hans Arnold

I began photographing professionally in 1979 and have remained deeply committed to the medium ever since. For me, photography and creating digital fine art is a way of understanding place, light, and the quiet emotional connections that exist between people and their environment. I am fully immersed as a fine art photographer, educator, lecturer, and workshop presenter. Teaching has become a central part of my practice, particularly working with school children, where I focus on the “Art of Seeing” and developing visual awareness rather than simply technical skill.
Over the years, I have been invited to lecture at camera clubs, tourism organizations, corporations, and associations throughout Canada and the United States. I also serve as a judge for numerous photography competitions, experiences that continue to sharpen my own vision. I am self-taught in digital processing and wide-format print production and produce all of my fine artwork including the photographs, printing and framing.
My photography focuses primarily on outdoor imagery—landscapes, nature in both grand and intimate scale, wildlife, urban scenes, and people portraits with strong character. This body of work has resulted in two bestselling coffee-table books and an archive of more than 80,000 images. Today, I continue to photograph wherever curiosity and travel take me, creating open and limited-edition fine art prints for collectors and institutions drawn to a thoughtful, handcrafted approach to fine art imagery.
Being part of Manitoba’s photography community has been a constant source of enjoyment and inspiration for me. I value the shared conversations, quiet critiques, and mutual respect that exist among photographers at every stage of their journey. Exhibiting, presenting, and simply sharing my work within this community allows the images to continue their life beyond the print, fostering connection, curiosity, and a deeper appreciation for the land and stories we all care about.
