I worked in an office environment for 37 years. After retiring, I was looking for a creative focus and chose watercolour - undaunted by its reputation of being the most difficult medium.

Painting built on my love of gardening, colour and photography. After taking some classes with a local Winnipeg artist, I fell in love with the medium and have never looked back. I have augmented my self study with workshops with local and international artists to enhance my technique and expand my horizons.

I love the range of effects you can achieve with watercolour from soft and light to bold and vibrant. Intrigued by the beauty and complexity in nature, I love the challenge of trying to capture it in my paintings. I am also influenced by the elegance and simplicity of Asian art and
choose to focus on the flower ensuring that it takes centre stage.

I paint flowers that I have an emotional reaction to because of their colour, texture or shape. I like to use real flowers or photos that I have taken; however, there are limits to the variety we get in Winnipeg. I will paint
from other’s photos with permission.

I find painting very relaxing and a wonderful way to deal with the stresses of life. It is a joy to start with a blank sheet of paper and end with a finished painting. It is always a surprise!
