Rosella Farmer

Rosella Farmer

I was born and raised in Woodstock, Ontario and attended Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Art has always been something that has fascinated me, but I did not start painting until I was in my late 20’s.  I joined a small art club in Scarborough, Ontario and was encouraged to start doing portraits in soft pastel. This began a life-long love of working in this medium.

I joined the Charleswood Art Group in 2003 so that I could learn to paint in watercolour.  I  also like to experiment with acrylics, posca pen, pen and ink, collage, cold wax mixed with oil paint and mixed media.  To me, colour is all important and I am continually trying to use it to give my paintings life and interest.

In 2010 I became a juried member of the Manitoba Society of Artists and served on the executive committee, as the membership chair, for four years. In 2015 I was juried into the Assiniboia Group of Artists.

Two of my paintings were given awards in online and international competitions.  One was a mixed media painting, called “A Tangled Fling”, which was entered into an International competition and was chosen as one of the winners from thousands of other paintings.  It has been published in a hard cover book, “Incite 3, The Art of Storytelling, page 47, which can be purchased at North Light Books online store.  Since then I have also received a number of other awards from online and local competitions.

In the fall of 2021, I applied and was juried into the Federation of Canadian Artists as an “Active” member.
